Do all of your cosmetics by yourself. It has many benefits. Not only on the environment because you avoid industrial production, or your health as you choose the quality and ingredients yourself, it also reflects your personality. Nobody is like you. You are unique. And so is the perfume you do yourself for yourself or good friends is unique. You combine the scents you like, you give it the intention you want it to have, you do your personal alquimia. Set intentions, feel yourself represented or have a beautiful wish for someone.

What you have to be aware of doing your own perfume.

Homemade perfumes fade faster than industrial produced perfumes as they only have few ingredients and all natural with no chemicals added. Homemade perfumes can not be stored as long as industrial perfumes, do small amounts ( that’s why roller bottles are great, they are small and easy to handle and reuse). Another benefit of doing small amounts is that you can adapt your scene to your personal moment of life, giving yourself more space to experiment.

To make the scent last longer we add some glycerine and distilled water to the alcohol based perfume. Also applying the perfume an the clean skin with some scent free skin lotion or oil helps to make the scent stay longer on your skin. Use some perfume on your neck and hair as well as on cloth. Use roller bottles that can be carried around easily as they are small and easy to apply. Always take notes! Write down what you are doing and label the bottles! Perfume making is a science. Professionals work with notes, devided in top, middle and base notes. The middle note is the strongest scent used. You can use as a guideline that the balance, starting with top is 3-5-2. Usually you start your combination with the base note.

I think the fun of experimenting is not to make it too scientific. I suggest play around and be yourself the expert on your perfume. Sit down and feel the different fragrances of the essential oils you have. Imagine them together. Make it a journey. Your journey. Your nose will tell you what is right and nice. Now get your roller bottle.

Ingredients

  • Vodka or other pure alcohol
  • Glycerine

Directions:

First add the essential oils to the roller bottle. Tab with your finger, move smoothly and get an idea of what you are mixing. If you have time let sit for 24h so the fragrances get melted together. For a roller bottle use 10 to 20 drops in total of essential oils. Once you have mixed the essential oils add ¼ of distilled water and a little glycerine to the bottle. Complete with the vodka. For making your roller bottle into a real beautiful perfume bottle you will love to carry around with you or having it placed in your bathroom is by adding dried flower petals to your perfume, it will look gorgeous.
