Why a Facial Steam?
Facial steams, also known as steam inhalation, is a common home remedy for soothing irritations in the respiratory tract. This practice involves heating water in combination with therapeutic herbs and essential oils to relieve dryness and/or discomfort in the respiratory tract, promoting the release of mucus, while also soothing the mind with relaxing aromas. Steam inhalation significantly improved symptoms of allergic rhinitis and nasal obstruction. Whether you have hay fever, a headache, or nasal congestion due to cold symptoms, you can prepare a bowl for your facial steam with just a few simple ingredients: a towel, warm water, herbs and/or essential oils.

Anti-Allergy Facial Steam
This recipe includes the decongesting and soothing properties of lavender, lemon, peppermint and thyme essential oils, some of our favourite aromas for vitality, immunity and mental ease. Nettle is also a part of this refreshing recipe, an ingredient most commonly prized for its anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory properties.
Ingredients:
- a bowl of warm water
- 2 tbsp nettle leaves
- 2 drops lavender essential oil
- 2 drops lemon essential oil
- 1 drops peppermint essential oil
- 1 drop thyme essential oil
- Boil a pot of warm water, then turn off the heat. Place nettles and set aside for 10 minutes.
- Test the temperature of the water: Take caution with the temperature, it shouldn't be too hot to touch. Wait for the temperature to drop, however there should still be some rising vapour.
- Combine the essential oils into the bowl of water.
- Grab a towel, wrap it around your head and the bowl, and steam for 5-10 minutes.
- Once you've finished, splash a few drops of cold water on your neck and face.
- optional: serve yourself a cup of nettle tea for extra support during this season of Springtime allergies.
