Background
Cinnamon Bark oil is derived from the small evergreen tree recognised as Cinnamomum Zeylanicum, belonging to the Lauraceae family. Also known as True Cinnamon Tree, Ceylon cinnamon tree, and Dalchini, the tree is native to Sri Lanka and South India. Cinnamon tree can grow up to 10-15 metres in height with 7-18 centimetres long dark green ovate-oblong leaves. Flowers are arranged in panicle inflorescence having a greenish colour with a distinct odour, with purple fruit containing a single seed.
General Information
Ecodrop's Organic Cinnamon bark essential oil is produced from the best yielding cinnamon plantations, organically grown in the silica-rich sandy soil of India, certified organic by the UK Soil Association. For the highest quality oil, only mature cinnamon plants (at least 2-3 years old) are selected, and their stem is cut down. The outer bark is stripped and discarded, and the inner wet bark is peeled into metre-long sheets and left to dry. Once dried, they naturally fold up into rolls, which are further cut into small pieces. These are then carried to the distillery, where extraction of the essential oil takes place by the CO2 method. Dry CO2 is passed through the rolls, which mixes with the oil present in the bark. This mixed oil and CO2 are then dissolved in ethanol. Pure cinnamon essential oil is then separated from the mixture by partial distillation.
