Background
Pogostemon cablin, also known as Patchouli, is a shrub species from Lamiaceae(mint) family. It is mainly found in Indonesia, parts of Southeast Asia, and Carribean countries. The bushy shrub of Patchouli prefers moist tropics and can grow up to 50-150 cm in height. The rich dark green leaves of this shrub produce an essential oil that is known for its alluring earthy, musky aroma. For centuries, this smell has been relished as incense in religious rituals to calm spirit and mind, and to keep insects away from holy places.
General Information
Ecodrop’s Organic Patchouli Essential oil is prepared from dark green leaves of PogostemonCablin, as the darkest colours yield the best quality oil. The plantation, at a suitable temperature in the tropics of Indonesia, bears high oil content leaves. To reap the darkest colour leaves, they are handpicked between sunrise and sunset when the colour pigment is at its prime. These are then kept in the shade to go fermentation for a few days and then carried to the distillery for extraction of essential oil by the steam distillation process.
