Background

Rosmarinus officinalis, commonly known as Rosemary, is native to Spain, Southern France, and the Mediterranean region. A member of the Lamiaceae(mint) family, this perennial plant grows up to 1-2 metres in height and bears pointy needle-shaped leaves with pink, purple, white, and blue flowers. Because of its intense and rich scent, Rosemary oil enjoys immense popularity among perfume and cosmetic industries.
Its colourful flowers, uplifting aroma, and therapeutic properties make this woody plant an invaluable ornamental herb which finds its place as a garden herb in almost every part of Europe. Its name is derived from the Latin words “Ros” and “Marinus” meaning “Dew of the sea.”

General Information

Ecodrop’s Rosemary essential oil is obtained from the leaves of organically grown Rosmarinus officinalis farms, certified under strict Soil Association Organic Standards. To maintain quality, leaves are harvested just before the blooming season. These are then dried and sent for oil extraction by the steam distillation process.

BENEFITS AND USES

Uses

Aromatherapy: The refreshing scent of Rosemary essential oil removes fatigue and reduces stress without making you sleepy. Unlike other stress-relieving oils, which students and working individuals find difficult to use during the daytime, this aroma increases mental alertness and stimulates the mind.

Haircare: Rosemary oil makes a common ingredient in many hair care products because of its popularity and efficacy in stimulating the scalp and supporting healthy hair growth. For its countless hair benefits ranging from strengthening hair strands to protecting them from heat and pollution, it’s truly a superfood for hair.

Decongestant: Massage the chest and back with this warming oil to ease colds, cough, and nasal congestion.

Pain-reliever: Dilute with a carrier oil and massage the affected area to reduce muscle contractions and alleviate inflammation-induced pain.

Mosquito repellent: Rosemary is highly effective against Aedesaegypti mosquitoes responsible for spreading Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika virus.

Directions

Haircare products: Add 3 drops of Rosemary and 3 drops of Peppermint oil to shampoo, conditioners, gels, and hair packs. Alternatively, make DIY Rosemary-Peppermint shampoo. Refer to our ebook for the complete recipe.

Hair growth massage: Add 4-5 drops to a tbsp of warm castor oil. Massage hair and scalp twice or thrice a week.

Diffusion: Add 5-6 drops to the diffuser. Or combine 4-5 drops with an equal amount of Bergamot oil in your diffuser or DIY air freshener.

Disinfectant and bug repellent: Mix 10-12 drops of Rosemary oil with water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. Use this as a cleaning agent or as a natural bug repellent spray.
