Here’s the truth about essential oils…

Most people don’t know how to use them properly. Yep, you read that right. Essential oils can do wonders for your skin, but are you sure that you’re using them correctly? Don’t worry if not, because in this post I’m going to give you the lowdown on everything essential about these oils! Get it?

Please excuse the awful pun…Shall we get started? 👇

What are essential oils?

To put it simply, essential oils are a type of oil that’s extracted from plants. They get the name ‘essential’ because they contain the essence (the aroma) of the plant they come from.

Hold up – I know what you’re thinking. It’s kind of like perfume, right?🤔

Wrong!

Yes, essential oils are deliciously aromatic, but did you know that many of them also have therapeutic properties? That’s right, we use these little potions to treat a variety of health conditions. And there’s no crazy 21st-century technology going on here…humans have played with this magic for thousands of years!

So no, they’re not merely ‘perfumes’. They’re life-changing healers…

And today you’re going to learn which ones you can use to treat your skin.

Ah yes, the famous Tea Tree Oil. This essential oil here gets a lot of good press…And rightly so!

Tea Tree Essential Oil is so potent that it’s been shown to treat mild to moderate acne by killing bacteria that lead to acne breakouts. Its antibacterial properties make it a fantastic solution to cuts and burns, as it keeps the wound clean and regenerates the skin quickly.

Alongside Lavender and Frankincense essential oils, Tea Tree is one of the staples that everyone should have at home!

How to use essential oils on your skin properly?

Never apply an essential oil directly to your skin! Why? I hear you ask…

Essential oils are extremely potent and they can burn the skin if used incorrectly. To be safe, follow these steps:

  1.  Dilute the essential oil in a carrier oil (see how to do this below).
  2. Always test the mixture on a small area of your skin before applying it to a larger area (to avoid a nasty allergic reaction).
  3.  Once you’re ready to apply it, make sure to massage it gently into the skin. Be careful with your eyes!

How to dilute essential oils?

As I mentioned above, you must dilute your essential oil in a carrier oil. Some of the popular carrier oils are:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Jojoba Seed Oil
  • Rose Hip Oil

To dilute the essential oil:

  1. Add a few drops of essential oil to a small amount of carrier oil (about 1 teaspoon of carrier oil for every 3-5 drops of essential oil).
  2. Mix the oils well.
