DIY Double Espresso Body Scrub

DIY Double Espresso Body Scrub - Ecodrop Limited

Wake up your skincare with coffee

Coffee is one of the world's best-loved beverages, and for many of us the day doesn't really begin until that first cup. Beyond the mug, coffee has long been a favourite ingredient in homemade body care for its rich aroma and the gentle, gritty texture of the grounds. Supercharge your self-care routine with this recipe for a DIY Double Espresso Body Scrub, made with both Organic Coffee Essential Oil and ground coffee beans. Below you will find a little about coffee in skincare, the full recipe, and a short FAQ.

Coffee essential oil

"Wake up and smell the coffee" is a saying for a reason. Coffee Essential Oil captures that deep, roasted, intoxicating aroma in concentrated form, which is exactly what makes it such a treat in a body scrub. The scent is warm, rich and unmistakably coffee, bringing the same comforting note you enjoy in your morning cup. A few drops are all you need to fill a whole jar of scrub with that invigorating fragrance.

Coffee for the skin

Ground coffee has been a popular addition to home scrubs for years, prized mostly for its texture. The fine, firm granules make a natural exfoliant that helps to sweep away dead skin cells and leave the skin feeling smooth and refreshed. Combined with a nourishing carrier such as coconut oil, the grounds glide over damp skin and rinse away cleanly. In this recipe the ground coffee and Coffee Essential Oil work together to give you a scrub that smells wonderful and leaves your skin feeling soft and polished.

DIY 'Double Espresso' body scrub recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup ground coffee - fresh or used
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 10 drops of Organic Coffee Essential Oil
  • Jar or container with lid for storage
Directions
  1. Mix together the ground coffee and the brown sugar. You can use freshly ground coffee or used grounds that have been left to dry.
  2. Add the coconut oil and mix together thoroughly. It is best to use slightly softened coconut oil, but not completely runny.
  3. Add 10 to 15 drops of Organic Coffee Essential Oil and mix together again.
  4. You can add more or less sugar, depending on how much of a scrubbing effect you want.
  5. Place the scrub into a jar or sealed container for storage.
  6. In the shower, apply the scrub to damp skin, rubbing in a circular motion. Rinse thoroughly. Use as needed.

If you would like to make a version for your face, we suggest substituting the coconut oil for argan or grapeseed oil, and reducing the sugar to one tablespoon. Be sure the coffee is finely ground if using on your face, and rub very gently.

A note on safe use: always patch test a new scrub on a small area of skin first, and avoid using it on broken or irritated skin or near the eyes. Take care in the shower or bath, as oil-based scrubs can make surfaces slippery. Use within a few weeks and keep the jar sealed and dry between uses.

We hope you enjoy this scrub as much as your morning cup of coffee. Give it a try and let us know how you get on.

FAQs

Can I use coffee grounds left over from my morning brew?

Yes. Used grounds work well in this scrub, which makes it a lovely way to give them a second life. Spread them out and let them dry fully before mixing, as damp grounds can make the scrub clump and spoil faster.

How long does the scrub keep?

Because it contains no preservatives, this scrub is best made in small batches and used within two to three weeks. Keep the jar sealed and avoid letting water get inside, and always scoop it out with clean, dry hands or a spoon.

How often should I use it?

A body scrub like this suits use a couple of times a week for most people. Listen to your skin and scrub less often if it feels at all sensitive. Always rub gently rather than pressing hard.

Can I swap the coconut oil for something else?

Yes. Argan, grapeseed and sweet almond oils are all good alternatives, and grapeseed is a lighter choice if you prefer a less rich feel. Keep the overall quantity of oil similar so the scrub holds together.

Will it stain my bath or shower?

Coffee grounds can leave a temporary brown residue, so rinse the bath or shower well after use. A quick wipe straight away prevents any marks from settling.
