Get Glowing Skin with this DIY Chamomile Face Wash Recipe
Chamomile is one of nature's most soothing botanicals. These pretty white flowers have long been valued for the gentle, calming qualities they bring both inside the body and out.
Chamomile teas, tinctures and other folk preparations have been enjoyed for centuries as part of evening wind-downs and gentle self-care. The soft, floral aroma of chamomile essential oil, together with the nourishment it lends to a skincare routine, makes it a lovely addition to a homemade face wash. The beautiful scent and the comfort it brings to the skin are just two reasons to fold this DIY chamomile face wash into your daily routine.
Benefits of Chamomile Essential Oil for Skin
Chamomile is among the gentlest essential oils, which makes it a popular choice for those with sensitive or easily irritated skin. Its soft, soothing character suits delicate complexions, and many people reach for it when their skin feels reactive or in need of a little calm.
Whether your skin is sensitive or not, chamomile leaves it feeling smooth, fresh and comfortable. Pairing the essential oil with brewed chamomile tea gives this recipe a double dose of that gentle, flowery goodness.

Why Make Your Own Chamomile Face Wash
This face wash recipe uses both Organic Chamomile Essential Oil and brewed chamomile tea, for a double dose of chamomile.
The castor oil adds a nourishing source of vitamin E, a well-loved antioxidant for the skin. Castile soap is 100% vegan, sulphate free and gentle. Try to source the highest quality ingredients you can, as this makes a real difference to how lovely the finished wash feels. All the ingredients combined make this DIY face wash paraben free, sulphate free and full of simple, recognisable goodness.
It is also easy to make and wonderfully affordable, so you may never want to buy conventional face wash again.

Safe Use
Essential oils are concentrated, so always keep them well diluted, as in this recipe, and never apply them neat to the skin. Patch test the finished face wash on your inner arm before using it on your face, and keep it away from the eye area. Store the bottle in a cool, dark place and use within a few weeks. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a skin condition, check with a qualified practitioner first.
FAQs
How long will this homemade face wash keep?
Because it contains brewed tea and no preservatives, use it within about two to three weeks and keep it somewhere cool and dark. Making small batches keeps it fresh.
Can I use a different essential oil instead of chamomile?
You can, though chamomile is chosen here for its especially gentle, floral character. If you swap it, keep the total at 7-8 drops and patch test the new blend first.
Is this face wash suitable for sensitive skin?
Chamomile and unscented Castile soap are popular choices for delicate skin, but everyone is different. Always patch test on your inner arm before regular use.
Do I need to dilute the essential oil?
Yes. The recipe already dilutes the chamomile oil in castor oil, Castile soap and tea. Never apply essential oils undiluted to the skin.
Can I use this around my eyes?
No, keep it away from the eye area. If any wash gets into your eyes, rinse thoroughly with cool water.
