Black frankincense, and why it is different
Boswellia neglecta is sold as black frankincense, and the name is literal. Its resin dries almost black on the bark, and the oil carries a deeper, darker resin note than the frankincense most people know: warm, earthy and faintly smoky.
Put it beside our Carterii and the family resemblance is obvious, but so is the difference. Where Carterii is sweet and balsamic and Sacra bright and lemony, neglecta is the grounded one, for slow evenings and meditation rather than lifting a room.
Three to four drops in a diffuser is plenty. Steam distilled from Kenyan resin, bottled in the UK.
From dark resin to oil
The least famous Boswellia
Neglecta earned its name honestly. Botanists passed it over for its showier cousins, and for a long time it was the frankincense nobody bothered to distil. The tree grows across the dry country of Kenya and the horn of Africa, and its bark is tapped the same way: scored by hand, left to bleed, the resin collected once it has hardened.
That resin is what makes this oil unusual. It dries dark rather than golden, and it carries a heavier, more smoke-like character into the still.
If you already own Serrata, Carterii or Sacra, this is the one that will surprise you. It is also a quietly useful base for natural perfumery, where its depth does work that the polished resins cannot.

How much is international delivery?
Flat and simple:
- European Union: £8.99
- USA & rest of the world: £11.99

Will I have to pay customs or import fees?
Possibly, yes, and we'd rather tell you upfront. Orders delivered outside the UK can be charged local VAT, import duty or a courier handling fee on arrival. These charges are set by your country, not by us, and are paid by the customer. They're usually modest for small parcels, but we can't predict the exact amount.
Can I return an order from outside the UK?
Yes, you have 30 days from delivery, as long as the items are unopened and unused (a hygiene rule for oils). Return postage is at your cost, and we refund you in full within 3 to 5 working days of receiving the parcel. Just email us your order number first.
What if something arrives damaged or wrong?
That's on us, wherever you are in the world. Email a photo and your order number to support@ecodrop.co.uk and we'll send a replacement or a refund straight away, and we cover the postage.
