Background

Ylang Ylang flowers bloom on the evergreen Cananga odorata tree native to SE Asia, Central Asia, and Pacific Islands. The essential oil derived from these sea star-shaped flowers is a highly versatile oil used for a range of beauty and therapeutic benefits. Unlike many essential oils that have a long history of use, Ylang Ylang essential oil became known to the world only in the 20th century. And because of its incredibly sweet uplifting scent, it is one of the most widely used essential oils of present times. Ylang Ylang oil is a well-known aphrodisiac for both genders and is used to improve mood. In Indonesia, Ylang Ylang flowers are used to decorate the beds of newlywed couples. Its essential oil is extensively used in perfumes, cosmetics, and aromatherapy applications owing to its anti-inflammatory and calming properties.

General Information

Ecodrop’s Ylang Ylang essential oil is extracted from freshly picked flowers through the steam distillation process. Flowers are sourced from our organic Cananga odorata plantations in Madagascar, certified organic by the UK Soil Association.

BENEFITS AND USES

Uses

Aromatherapy: The rich, floral, soothing scent of Ylang Ylang oil activates the brain to release small amounts of dopamine chemicals that are responsible for a feeling of cheerfulness. It reduces stress, promotes a feeling of contentment, and enhances libido. It also works as a sedative and induces sleep.

Haircare: Stress is a leading cause of hair fall and since Ylang Ylang oil reduces stress, it is highly effective in hair fall and thinning of hair follicles. It repairs and rejuvenates damaged hair strands, making them look fuller and lustrous.

Skincare: Yalng Ylang oil is not only deeply moisturizing for the skin, but it also removes excess oil and regulates sebum production. Its antibacterial ability keeps acne and pimples at bay while promoting faster healing of their marks.

Wound healer: The antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties of the Ylang Ylang oil are effective in disinfecting cuts or wounds, soothing irritation of the skin, and preventing infections.

PMS symptoms: During menstruation, massage with Ylang Yang oil relieves cramps as its antispasmodic ability reduces uterine contractions and relaxes the muscles. It also helps with other PMS symptoms, such as mood swings, irritability, and lack of concentration.

Directions

Diffusion: Add 4-5 drops to home diffusers. For relaxation and sedative effects, blend 2-3 drops with equal amounts of Lavender oil for an enhanced effect.

Romantic blend: Add 6-8 drops to diffusers. Alternatively, mix 3 drops each of Ylang Ylang, Rose, and Neroli oils.

Massage: Add 6-8 drops to 15 ml of sesame or olive oil.

Skin and hair applications: Add 2-3 drops to unscented creams and lotions. Add 3-4 drops to 10 ml of coconut oil and massage your scalp and hair twice a week.
