Respiratory Health is Essential
With cold and flu season here, prevention prior to treatment should be at the forefront of our priorities. Essential oils are useful companions for promoting respiratory health. They can help decongest the sinus by clearing out the pathways, combating infections, bacterias and viruses.
Healthy respiration is vital for wellbeing. A person can survive several days without food, but only a few moments without breath. Oxygen is needed to supply all the organs and cells for our sustenance, making respiration the most important function in the whole body.
Essential Oils for Respiratory Health
Organic Eucalyptus essential oil
Eucalyptus essential oil is one of our top picks for this season. Eucalyptus contains a compound called eucalyptol, which exhibits anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that may help fight infections (Wińska, Katarzyna et al., 2019). It can reduce inflammation, relieve muscle tension caused by illness and relieve symptoms of asthma (National Center for Biotechnology Information., 2020).
Dilute 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil into your facial steams or in 30ml carrier oil for a cooling and clearing massage blend.
Organic Bergamot essential oil
Bergamot essential oil is cooling and refreshing. It can relax the senses, promote wellbeing and uplift the mood, while its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties help fight off infections (Navarra, Michele et al., 2015). Its energising aromas make it a wonderful essential oil for any time of the day.
Dilute bergamot essential oils into your baths, facial steams and/or diffuser for a refreshing aromatherapy practice.
Organic Myrrh and Frankincense essential oils
Since ancient times, frankincense and myrrh have been used for respiratory health, wound healing, incenses in ceremonies and prayers, even as part of the embalming process of mummies! Myrrh essential oil and frankincense essential oil are captivating and grounding aromas, while also known for their anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.
Dilute up to 5 drops myrrh, frankincense and bergamot essential oil into your diffuser to purify the air in your home while soothing your senses.
Organic Ginger essential oil
Ginger essential oil is penetrating and stimulating. It is commonly known to reduce symptoms of excess mucus in the throat and lungs, making it a useful oil for colds and flus. On top of that, it’s a stimulant for the circulatory system, which functions to provide oxygen for the whole body.
Blend ginger essential oil with citrus, spicy and woody aromas for a circulatory stimulating and immune boosting aromatherapy blend.
Organic Peppermint essential oil
Cooling, refreshing and vitalising, peppermint essential oil is another one of our favourites for the cold and flu season. Menthol in peppermint is known to cool the respiratory pathways, especially during symptoms of dry cough and sore throat.
Dilute 5 drops of essential oil in warm water, grab a towel and wrap it around your head. Breathe in the aromas of peppermint and let the aromatics soothe your senses.
Antiviral essential oil blend
our antiviral essential oil blend is our go-to remedy for the cold and flu season. We have included various essential oils, such as ravensara, tea tree, and cedarwood essential oils. They are known to combat infections, relieve sinus congestion and improve overall respiratory health.
Dilute this antiviral blend into your diffuser to purify the air of your home, blend into carrier oils for an antiviral chest rub, or dilute 5 drops into warm water for an at-home facial steam.
